Singular Cycles Introduces the 32 inch Wheel Singular Albatross: “Continuing our Big-Wheel Heritage”

BRR Analysis

Singular Cycles, a brand with a stated history of championing larger wheel sizes, has officially unveiled its new Singular Albatross model, notably featuring 32-inch wheels. This move, announced via Gravel Cyclist, sees founder Sam Alison continuing his "big-wheel heritage," following his introduction of the 29-inch Swift model back in 2006, long before 29ers became an industry standard. The Albatross represents a significant step beyond the current mainstream, pushing the boundaries of wheel diameter.

This development is particularly noteworthy given the cycling industry's cyclical embrace and rejection of various wheel sizes, from 26-inch to 27.5-inch, and the eventual dominance of 29-inch wheels in mountain and gravel disciplines. Singular's consistent advocacy for larger diameters, citing improved traction and rollover, positions them as both an outlier and a potential trendsetter. Their previous success with 29ers lends a certain credibility to this latest, even more ambitious, proposition.

While the industry largely settled on 29-inch as 'big,' Singular clearly believes there's still room to grow. One can only assume they're preparing us for the inevitable 36-inch standard by 2030.
