The Two Wildest Time Trial Bikes at China Cycle Are Gunning for World Records and Colnago
BRR Analysis
At China Cycle, two relatively unknown brands, Seka and Incolor, unveiled radical new time trial prototypes, each with ambitious goals. Seka's offering, developed with an Oxford mathematician, is explicitly targeting the Hour Record. Incolor, meanwhile, presented a $5,000 split-seatpost superbike, aiming to democratise extreme aerodynamics and directly challenge established brands like Colnago in the high-performance segment.
This emergence of niche manufacturers pushing the boundaries of UCI regulations, or indeed ignoring them for specific record attempts, highlights a growing trend. With the UCI's increasingly restrictive rules for mass-start races, the time trial and Hour Record disciplines offer a fertile ground for innovation, often driven by smaller, agile companies willing to take risks. Their stated aim to undercut established giants like Colnago underscores the fierce competition in the high-end market, where marginal gains and perceived technological superiority translate directly into sales.
Whether these machines will truly redefine performance or simply remain intriguing prototypes remains to be seen. However, their very existence serves as a stark reminder that the pursuit of speed, however esoteric, continues unabated.
