Illness forces Onley out of Tour de Romandie
BRR Analysis
Ineos Grenadiers' Oscar Onley has been forced to abandon the Tour de Romandie due to illness, a decision made following Tuesday's prologue. The young Briton finished 79th, 35 seconds adrift of surprise stage winner Dorian Godon (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale), who claimed the short individual time trial. Onley's premature exit marks a significant setback for both the rider and his team's GC ambitions in the Swiss stage race.
This withdrawal is particularly frustrating for Onley, who was slated to lead Ineos Grenadiers at Romandie, a crucial WorldTour event. His season has already been hampered by a fractured clavicle sustained at the Volta ao Algarve in February, just as he was building form. Romandie was intended as a vital step in his return to top-tier racing and a chance to prove his GC capabilities after a promising start to the year.
Another promising talent sidelined. One can only hope Onley's recovery is swift, as the peloton is hardly short on opportunities for those who can stay on two wheels and out of the medic's tent.
