Durbridge will retire at Australian road nationals
BRR Analysis
Luke Durbridge, the veteran Australian rider for Jayco-AlUla, has announced his intention to retire from professional cycling at the Australian Road Nationals in January 2027. This decision means the current season will be his last full road campaign. The announcement came shortly after the 35-year-old completed his eleventh and final Paris-Roubaix, marking the end of an era for the inaugural Orica-GreenEdge squad, of which Durbridge was the last active member at the WorldTour level.
Durbridge's impending retirement signifies the closing chapter for a generation of Australian riders who rose with the Orica-GreenEdge project, now Jayco-AlUla. A multiple national champion in time trials and a former U23 World Champion, his career has been defined by his powerful engine, often deployed in support roles, lead-outs, and early breakaway efforts in Classics. His longevity and consistent presence in the peloton, particularly in the Spring Classics, underscore his dedication and value to the team over more than a decade.
While 2027 seems a distant horizon, Durbridge's early announcement offers a remarkably long farewell tour, allowing fans ample time to appreciate one of the peloton's most reliable workhorses before he finally hangs up the wheels.
